The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Search for Lailatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan." (Sahih Al Bukhari Vol 3 Hadith 2017)

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. The blessed nights of Ramadan are what every Muslim desires to live through every year. The blessed nights of Ramadan are a great time to repent for our sins, perform supplications, and become better Muslims. Among the last ten nights of the nights of Ramadan, there is a certain night known as Lailatul Qadr.

Lailatul Qadr

Lailatul Qadr is one of the most important nights of Ramadan. It is known as the night of decree.

"Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments." (Al Quran 44: 3-4)

Night of Power

"We have indeed revealed this (message) in the night of power: And what will explain to you what the night of power is? The night of power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand. Peace!.. this until the rise of morn." (Al Quran 97:1-5)

 The most important dua to be recited during Lailatul Qadr:

Narrated Aisha (R.A): "I said,' O messenger of Allah (PBUH), what is your view that if I know when Lailatul Qadr is, what should I say in it?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, indeed you are forgiving (Generous), You love forgiving, so forgive me.' (Jami At Tirmidhi Vol 6 Hadith 3513)

Night of Forgiveness

 "Whoever stood for Salah (Prayers) in the night of power (Lailatul Qadr) with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, all his past sins will be forgiven." (Sahih Al Bukhari Vol 3 Hadith 2014)

I'tikaaf

I'tikaaf refers to the practice of staying in the Masjid for a particular period of time, devoting oneself to the worship of Allaah (SWT) while staying away from worldly affairs. The word I'tikaaf also means to engage and retreat in the Masjid, seeking nearness to Allaah (SWT) and seeking His reward.

Objectives of I'tikaaf

• To seek out Laylatul Qadr
• To do Adhkaar and all actions that increase Taqwa.
• To increase the recitation of the Quran.

Some acts such as leaving the Masjid without a valid reason, sexual intercourse with one's wife, menstruation, etc., invalidate I'tikaaf. Committing any major sin can also invalidate I'tikaaf.

"Do not associate with your wives while you are in retreat in the Masjid."

Al Qur'an 2:187

Increase Worship During  Last 10 Blessed Nights of Ramadan

Aishah (R.A) said: "The Messenger of Allah used to strive harder (in worship) in the last ten (nights of Ramadan) than at any other time." (Sahih Muslim Vol.2 Hadith 2788)
