Lesson 1 : Ramadhaan – The Month of the Qur'aan – Part 1

Ramadan is the month of Quran. Quran is the most sacred book for all Muslims. The revelation of the Quran in the month of Ramadan was done. The word Quran is derived from the Arabic word “Qaraa,” which means “to read” or “to recite,” and “Quran” means “the recitation” or “the reading.”

In Shar’eeah, Quran is Allah’s last and final revelation on the last and final Prophet (PBUH) of Allah.

Previous Books

Allah has mentioned all the previous revelations (Books) in the Quran. This shows that Quran is the ultimate guide for mankind.

Different Names

The Quran has been addressed with different names such as “Al Furqaan, Tanzeel, Dhikr, Al Noor, etc.”

Quran and Ramadan – Ramadan is The Month of Quran

Ramadan is the month of Quran. Allah says:

Ramadhaan is the (month) in which was sent down the Quran, as a guidance to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong).” (Al Quran 13:38)

Ibn’ Abbaas (RA) narrated:

“Every night in the month of Ramadhaan, Archangel Jibreel (PBUH) used to recite and rehearse the Quran with the Prophet (PBUH).” (Saheeh Al Bukhaari – Vol 1 Hadeeth 6)

Virtues and Blessings of the Quran

Ramadan is the month of Quran and blessings. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“For every letter you recite from Allah’s (SWT) Book; you get a Hasanah (a blessing). And each blessing is equivalent to 10 Hasanaat (10 blessings).”

The recitation of the Quran also attracts the angels. The Quran will intercede for you on the day of Judgement. The month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed yields greater rewards.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for its reciter.” (Saheeh Muslim – Vol 2 Hadeeth 1757)

The Quran will be your friend when you are alone. It is a source of calmness and also safeguards you against evil.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Anyone who recites the last 2 verses of Surah Al Baqarah at night, will be safe.” (Saheeh Al Bukhaari – Vol 6 Hadeeth 5009)

Ramadan is the month of Quran. There are certain manners to recite the Quran.

The recitation of the Quran guarantees Paradise.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Anyone who recites the Ayat ul Kursi (Al Qur’an 2:255) after each compulsory Salaah, will not be forbidden entry to Paradise.” (Mu’jam At Tabraani – Vol 8 Hadeeth 7532)

Ramadan is the month of Quran, and the person who recites the Quran will receive light from Allah (SWT)

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Anyone who recites Surah Al Kahf on a Friday will receive a light from Allaah (SWT) which will remain with him till the next Friday.” (Mustadrak Al Haakim – Vol 1 Hadeeth 2072)

The most sacred month for Muslims, Ramadan is the month of Quran.
