Lesson 5 – Biology, Botany & Zoology

Biology in Quran is also of significant importance. As we know, the Quran is not only a book of religion. It doesn’t only teach us about Islam and worshipping Allah. It is a complete code of life that contains information about everything. Biology, Botany, and Zoology in Quran are our topics today, with respected Dr. Zakir Naik here to teach us from his immense treasure of knowledge.

Water, the Primary Constituent of Life and Biology in Quran

Every living organism is made up of tiny blocks known as cells. The biology in Quran teaches us about the major constituent of living organisms. The cytoplasm is the primary element of these cells. After advanced research, scientists have come to the result that the major constituent of all living organisms is water. This fact was mentioned in the biology in Quran 1400 years ago:

“Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth Were joined together (as one unit of Creation) before We clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?” (Al Quran 21:30)

All living organisms including man and animals, are made up of water.

“It is He Who has created man from water: then has He established relationships of lineage and marriage: for thy Lord has power (over all things).” (Al Quran 25:54)

All the living organisms are a visual representation of the biology in Quran.

Botany in Quran

Plants also have two distinct types of sex, male and female. It was not until the modern discoveries of science that humans came to know about this. The biology in Quran of plants (Botany) mentioned this clearly 1400 years ago:

“And has sent down water from the sky. With it We produced diverse pairs of plants each separate from the others.” (Al Quran 20:53)

“Glory to Allah. Who created in pairs all things that the earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind and (other) things of which they have no knowledge.” (Al Quran 36:36)

Zoology in Quran

Zoology research says that animals and birds live in the form of communities.

There is not an animal (that lives) on the earth, nor a being that flies on its wings, but (forms part of) communities like you.” (Al Quran 6:38)

The flight of birds is also mentioned in the Quran.

“Do they not look at the birds, held poised in the midst of the air and the sky? Nothing holds them up but (the power of) Allah. Verily in this are signs for those who believe.” (Al Qur’an 16:79)

There are also mentions regarding the bees in the Quran. How Allah taught the bees where to live, what to eat, and how to navigate. The Holy Quran consists of information that is being discovered now.

The Holy Quran also mentions the fragile nature of the spider’s house and ants communicating in the Quran discovered by recent advancements in science.

“And before Solomon were marshalled His hosts, of Jinns and men and birds, and they were all kept in order and ranks. At length, when they came to a valley of ants, one of the ants said: “O you ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it.” (Al Quran 27:17-18)
