Lesson 6 - Acts Permitted During Fasting
Ramadan is a month that comes once in a year. It is a very gracious month for Muslims. We fast during this month and want to gain the love of Allah during this month. There are certain things that do not invalidate fasting. These acts are often confused with being permitted or prohibited. Today’s discussion will clear all your doubts. Things that do not invalidate fasting
Swallowing Saliva
Ataa’ said, “The swallowing of saliva does not break the Saum (fast).” (Sahih Al Bukhari Vol.3 chapter 25). From the hadith, it is quite clear that swallowing saliva is one of the things that do not invalidate fasting.
Gargling the Mouth
Gargling the mouth with water without the water entering the throat is also one of the things that do not invalidate fasting.
Being in a State of Sexual Impurity without Committing Sexual Intercourse
This is also one of the things that do not invalidate the fast. Fast is only invalidated if you commit sexual intercourse.
Some of the other permitted things that do not invalidate fasting are:
- Wearing Perfume
- Taking Sublingual tablets without swallowing.
- Taking injections that don’t contain nourishment as a treatment.
- Withdrawing blood for testing.
- Applying cream or lotion.
- Use nasal or ear drops without letting them enter the throat.
- Per vaginal investigation.
- Insert a scope or instrument in the body for medical purposes.
- Tasting Food without Swallowing it
- Applying Black Eyeliner or Al Kohl
- Having Sexual Relationship with Spouse at Night
- Use toothpaste for brushing
